Download .NET 7 Release Candidate 2 (Offline Installers)

Microsoft has released .NET 7 Release Candidate (RC) 2, which is the final preview version before .NET 7 stable is released. This release also includes a security patch that mitigates known vulnerabilities.

Since this is not a finalized update, we suggest that you do not install it in production environments and only use it for testing purposes. However, if you are already using an earlier preview version, we strongly recommend that you upgrade to RC 2 due to its security fixes.

This release introduces new features and enhancements to .NET, which are discussed in detail below. Prior to this release, Microsoft released 7 Preview Updates and 1 Release Candidate. Click on the respective links below if you want to learn more about them:

.NET 7 RC 2 was tested with Visual Studio 17.4 Preview 3, so Microsoft recommends that you use it with Visual Studio preview channel releases only to avoid compatibility conflicts. It can be installed on the following platforms using the direct download links shared below:

Now let’s dive into the new enhancements this version offers before downloading and trying it out.

What’s New in .NET 7 Release Candidate 2

C# 11 inclusion

C# (C Sharp) is still considered one of the popular coding languages. Microsoft has now included its latest available version, which is C# 11, to .NET 7.

C# 11 includes many new features and enhancements. You can learn more about this here.

Library and SDK improvements

The Microsoft team is constantly updating the .NET SDKs and libraries. New APIs containing completely new functionality are added regularly. Performance improvements are being made to existing APIs, giving you benefits just by upgrading. Entirely new libraries are being created to help with your daily jobs.

Similarly, the SDKs are also being improved along with the libraries.

Microsoft has also instructed developers on how to perform certain tasks correctly and not rely entirely on the new features, such as implementing generic math interfaces correctly and avoiding a behavior change in the built-in operators for IntPtr and UIntPtr.

final analysis

According to statistics from Statista, .NET is no longer the most widely used framework today. However, a significant portion of developers still use it and will need it to keep updating their apps.

That said, the developers of .NET (and the framework) aren’t going anywhere any time soon. So you better get used to it as it is still widely used in 2022.

That’s why we recommend .NET developers to switch to the latest version of .NET available for testing purposes and make their applications compatible before the actual release of .NET 7 stable.
